Some interesting statistics I’ve seen recently:
Search Engine Shares of total searches: Google has 39.8% share of total searches, while Yahoo has 29.5% and MSN sites have 14.2% share. Following up is AOL with 8.7% (powered by Google search) and Ask powers 6.5%.
If you add Google’s direct searches with their AOL “Google Powered” searches, you still see the clear leader in online search with just under 49% market share. MSN is making inroads with relatively recent search entry, likely leveraging it’s installed base of Internet Explorer browsers. I’ve also heard that Google may be launching a partnership with Dell to become the default start page on new Dell machines. Interesting article, actual page on Google’s site.
Online Video: Online video ad spending in the U.S. will reach $640 million in 2007, according to Research and Market’s projections.
Text messaging usage: 60 percent of adults in a recent survey said they use text messages to tell others they love them. 27 percent said they use it to flirt. 7 percent said they’ve used it to ask for a date, and 2 percent used texting to dump someone. (from Tegic Communications via OMMA Magazine)
Interesting, I must admit my wife and I text quite a bit, as do friends. I understand that Europe and Asia are even more frequent users of text messaging.
