Pay Per Click Management… Changes are afoot!
I don’t do a lot of pay per click advertising management, just a few thousand a month for several side clients, mostly small businesses. Two clients are in fairly competitive spaces and I’ve been looking for ways to improve their click-through from the ads.
In my research I’ve found that both Yahoo (Overture) and now MSN are improving their PPC ad management tools to keep up with the 800-pound gorilla in the space, Google. [ Yahoo news here. MSN news here. ]
An interesting quote:
Overall, Microsoft’s sales pitch impressed Rishad Tobaccowala, CEO of Publicis’ DeNuo. “Microsoft is going to be committed [to advertising], and these guys don’t care what their stock price is. They now understand that advertising is four times larger than the software industry.”
Big stuff.
Frankly I’m surprised Yahoo let themselves get behind, as they were clearly one of the first to market, at least via their 2003 purchase of Overture.
But then Google got the chance to be the second to market and learn from Overture/Yahoo’s mistakes.
I never had too much trouble using Google’s Adwords via their My Client Center product, but Yahoo’s was a bit more kludgy. From a usability perspective, in complex applications you know best what you learn first, so maybe that’s a consideration here. What’s your experience? Will you explore MSN’s new adCenter for your online advertising programs or for your clients? If so, drop us a line with your thoughts!
Have a great day!
