Blog Tag: 5 things about Charlie

So my old pal Marc Cord Silverstein at Marketing Hipster did the “Blog Tag” thing on me. The concept is that a blogger posts 5 things that people may not know about them, then pass on if possible. Here goes… 8-)

1. My first bootstrapped business venture was a lawn care business when I was about 12. I rented equipment from my extended family until I could buy my own with profits, and made enough to buy my first mini-motorcycle, a Honda Mini-Trail 70. I crashed it soon after. 8-)

2. My great grandfather, George Browning, had over 150 patents on a variety of consumer and industrial products. From the late 1800’s to about 1935, he invented and patented golf balls, golf bag stands, golf scorekeepers, ironing board stands, irons, cash registers, sprinkers, many types of safety razors and cases, bicycle kick stands and more. Many of these patents of G. Browning in Illinois (via Google Patent search) are his. I hope to have at least one patent in my lifetime.

3. I lived in Germany for two years in the late 80’s while in the military. I learned to speak some German, I now can’t recall any German because I’ve learned a smidgen of Japanese years after that, and am learning Spanish now. I’ve somehow sputtered out 4 languages into one sentence trying to communicate with in-laws.

4. I was a professional photographer for several years. I photographed news, kids, bands, even aspiring models.

5. After being in an office and behind a desk for much of my day, I actually enjoy mowing and edging my lawn.
