More on “Viral Marketing” by Video

My last post on viral marketing and Blendtec’s “Will it blend?” campaign was quite popular… it even got a comment from George Wright of Blendtec.

He says they got “tens of thousands” of interactions/requests, traffic and orders grew exponentially. Good for them… it’s great to see a well done campaign pay off.

Thanks for the comment George!

Kevin Dougan’s blog shares another video going around, not the full package like Blendtec’s effort, but amusing too.

It’s from Mountain Dew, and features an elderly woman hosting a tv show on how to do music mash ups. It’s lightly branded and peppered with her throwing out hip-hop and technical Sue-Teller Mountain Dewterms, just a bit off key… “I went to a website on the world-wide internet to find out more…” mostly it’s just the context of her pronouncing “crunk” and “getting her freak on”… Video here at YouTube. Most of the comments are very positive too. “I wanted to hate this but it’s hilarious.” And another episode on “customizing your kicks.”

Not a bad effort. It seems like it hits the demo, is ironic and silly enough without getting over-promotional. Reminds me a little of Wendy’s classic “Where’s the beef?” ads, similarly featuring cute older lady with spirit. Kevin posts that he thinks its a lead into Mountain Dew’s Superbowl ads.

Thoughts?
