If they can’t say it, will they talk about it?

Yesterday in line at a store checkout, I overheard a conversation about the new small SMART cars that are starting to pop up around Austin. “Yea, those are called ‘fourtwhoas” they are soo tiny.”

I thought to myself “fourtwhoa’s?” Is that a French pastry?  Oh, the new SMART car… but aren’t those called “ForTwo?” As in “for two” people? (Site here.)

From recent experience, I know naming a company or product is a really tough thing to do, but adding in non-standard spacing probably doesn’t help. Diversity in languages and international backgrounds further complicate the matter.

Have you heard someone mis-pronounce your company or product name?
