Specialists
Sorry for the light posting… Between some travel to California, client work (and a few diapers) I’ve been pretty busy… 8-)
As I’ve said a few times here, after a long week of sitting in meetings and at the computer, I really enjoy some time working on my lawn… mowing, edging etc. The house we bought a few years ago has great grass, and full landscaping… 3 huge rose bushes, small trees, hedges, a gravel island and about 30 different kinds of plants.
The trouble I’m having is that there are so many, I really have no idea how to take care of them… much less delicate plants like the roses. The last month or so, the roses bloomed like crazy, with probably 40+ blooms per plant… beautiful. BUT, now the leaves are falling off!
I’ve realized that I really need to find someone that knows about these roses, and all these plants so I don’t end up killing them all… 8-) I really need to hire a specialist.
The reason this is relevant is that in several recent client meetings recently, I’ve realized that a few clients have come to the same conclusion… that this online/interactive thing is so deep and broad that as smart as they are, they need to hire specialists too. Even with advanced degrees and 20-ish years of experience in their field, they still need someone that is passionate about online customer experiences, that has a methodology for user-centered design, that has built enterprise web projects from the ground up, that reads and researches hours a day. (I really do!)
I guess that makes me feel better about hiring someone for my lawn… 8-)
